It's Halloween night, but everyone is dropping their masks. When two couples drink a strange blue Peruvian wine together, the evening turns eventful as their traditions and their relationships to one another begin to unravel. Will the truth set them free or is it another trap to escape? A dark comedy about the perils of honesty.
VINO VERITAS received its world premiere at the Purple Rose Theatre Company (Guy Sanville Artistic Director; Jeff Daniels, Executive Director; Alan Rembrandt, Managing Director), and Is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
David Macgregor was born in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University. He is a Resident Artist at The Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, MI. His plays have been performed from New York to Tasmania, and his work has been published by Dramatic Publishing, Playscripts, Smith & Kraus, Applause, and Heuer Publishing. In 2013, he adapted his play VINO VERITAS into a film, which stars Carrie Preston and Bernard White.
Most recently, he has adapted all three of his Sherlock Holmes plays into novels, which are forthcoming from MX Publishing, as is his nonfiction book, Sherlock Holmes: The Hero With a Thousand Faces.
He has had his writing publicly burned, has been hung in effigy, and once upon a time, was ranked one of the top hundred Scrabble players on the planet.
A 2008 USF graduate, Trish performed in local shows including RICHARD III (Secret Theatre), TWELFTH NIGHT (SPLT), and CRIMES OF THE HEART (ICT) before pursuing grad school in London at East 15 Acting School. She was in a variety of works including ORESTES (Lazarus Theatre) and WATERCOLOURS (Tate Modern). By 2012 she was performing on the Fringe with THE AWESOME SHOW, touring the UK, including the West End. 2013 saw Trish in BACK TO SCHOOL (Arty Kamikaze) and co-devising A BRIEF HISTORY OF BEER, which toured around the world, becoming a monthly in NYC’s East Village 2014-2018. In 2017 Trish helped found Tampa Fringe, and in 2018 moved back to the Bay. She continued performing, MCing the sell-out Smut Slam NYC 2017-2018, and touring, including her award winning THE WAFFLE HOUSE DAZE in 2018-19. Andrew Hughes is thrilled to be taking the stage at Off-Central Players with this incredibly talented cast. He has been seen most recently at the Gulfport One Act festival and in West Coast Players production of HONKY TONK HISSY FIT. When he isn’t performing for strangers Andrew splits his time between sailing, cooking, and tennis. He would like to thank his friends for their continued support, and Stephen for giving him the chance to play this role.
Tracey Reynolds is thrilled to be making her debut performance with Off-Central Players as Claire! She is a Tampa native who began her professional acting career in the 90s in NYC where her credits included roles in off-off Broadway and regional productions of THIS SIDE OF GREY (Bunny), STAGE DOOR (Jean), MY SISTER EILEEN (Helen), and more. Locally, she has appeared in stage productions of THE WILD WOMEN OF WINEDALE (Edith/Betty); CENTENNIAL CASTING (Edie); and ‘TIL BETH DO US PART (Beth). You may spot her in a variety of regional and national brand commercials; the true crime series AMERICAN DETECTIVE (Discovery+), the short film GLOSS; and the web-based series DIGITAL HUMAN. If you’re a fan of radio theatre like she is, you might catch her in one of the LIVE RADIO THEATRE shows at St. Pete’s Studio@620. She wants to thank her wonderful husband, Chris, and her awesome kids, Ryan and Delaney, for their ongoing support of her pursuit of doing what she loves most.
Larry Bukovey played Lendall in John Cariani's ALMOST, MAINE in this very building, but this is his first production with Studio Grand Central and Off-Central Players. He has previously performed on Tampa Bay area stages with Grand Central Stage at the Andi Matheny Acting Studios, Hat Trick Theatre Productions at the Murray Theatre, a Job Side production with Job Site Theater at the Shimberg Playhouse, and two Young Dramatists Project productions with The Gorilla Theatre and Stage Works. Larry has been studying, performing, and teaching improv comedy since 1998 and currently can been seen playing around St. Pete at The Mar, Studio@620 and Spitfire Comedy House. He recently had two teams performing at the 6th Annual Countdown Improv Festival at the HCC Campus in Ybor City. Besides live theater, he has done some acting on film and TV. Stephen Ray is delighted to be directing his first show at Studio Grand Central. A graduate of Florida School of the Arts, Stephen has been a working performer in the Tampa Bay area for the past 20 years. This is the sixth show that he has directed. Past directing credits are ROMEO AND JULIET (St. Petersburg Shakespeare Festival), PINOCCHIO, PAGLIACCI, and TAVERN SONGS at St. Petersburg Opera. Michael Horn is a St. Pete native, an actor, artist, prop-maker, effects engineer, and technical jack-of-all-trades, you can find some of his creations at http://michaelhorn.art. Michael designed lights for the Off-Central Players productions of PLOT POINTS IN OUR SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT and SOMETHING CLEAN at Studio Grand Central. He spends a lot of time working tech and effects for children's theatre, which is always magical and fun, but has also built countless props, sets, and effects for various other theaters in the area. You may have seen him recently in the one-man show MAYDAY: CAPTAIN LERRO AND THE SKYWAY BRIDGE. He is currently working on an interactive light ring installation for Crab Devil's immersive art experience, The Penninsulareum, in Tampa.
Dominique Yarbrough-Frederick is currently a student at Mississippi University for Women working towards their MFA in Theatre Education. They are thrilled to be back in the space after stage managing BREADCRUMBS, a show co-produced between Studio Grand Central and A Circle in the Water last April. While their main gig is stage managing, they dabble in the occasional acting and design roles as well. Dom also joined the education team at American Stage as a teaching artist last spring. Recent SM credits include THE CEMETERY CLUB, BOEING BOEING, and KALAMAZOO, all at Early Bird Dinner Theatre, in addition to THE MOUNTAINTOP (West Coast Players), and THE WILD PARTY (Aeon Life).
